Essentially an improved desktop version of Elektronika’s B3-05M, the MK-59 was released at the Rodon plant in Ukraine in 1985.

Its reed switch keyboard increased service life significantly, and drew many admirers.

"With its reliable and accurate high-speed operations, the handy Elektronika MK-59 is well suited for use by Central Statistical Office, tabulating machine centres, and industrial enterprises," gushed the Central Commercial and Advertising Organisation in their brochure.

The model came in two versions with different colour cases and key symbols. It also featured a sixteen-digit vacuum fluorescent display.

The MK-59 ran on a 220V AC mains supply with a 5W power intake.
